The Victoria Hockey League starts its 18 game regular season in the 1st week of September and concludes mid March, followed by three rounds of playoffs. The first round and semi -finals are the best of 3 followed by the finals which is the best of 5. Each team pays league dues which includes ice times, 2 referees, scorekeeper and player's medical/dental insurance. Most teams tend to go with 15 skaters and a goalie while also attempting to maintain a sponsorship that provides approximately $1500, bringing each player's individual fees closer to $600 each.   
When considering playing in the VHL, it is a competitive men's league that can be marked by some aggressive play that may not suit all players' expectations of fair play.
When you sign up there is "no guarantee" you will be put on a team. This is a spare list where every team rep can view the list of players. If they are in need of another player for their roster or if they just need additional player for a game you might get a call or email.
